I've just received a replacement computer from DELL. I ORIGINALLY had the T7500 2.2 GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4M L2 Cache Processor BUT I received in my replacement laptop a T6600 2.2 GHz/800 Mhz, 2M L2 Cache. Should I be concerned. Intel does not list a T6600 but does have a T7500. I am feeling that the T6600 is obsolete. What is the difference and does this warrant a possible return.

The T6600 is most likely one of the new Intel rebrands. They do alot of that with their CPUs. If you run CPUz it might still come up as a T7500.

Thanks, but what about the difference in 4M L2 cache with the T7500 and 2M L2 cache in the T6600?

Technically, you can take up issue with Dell, since they mention that your hardware will be replaced with equivalent or better options.. A lesser cache certainly is worse..

you might as well complain, while it is a newer processor, it does have less cache.

i doubt they would argue that since its a newer process it runs cooler....

The T6600 is a Penryn. Newer Architecture > Probably a tad faster, and much cooler.

I'd preffer the T6600 before T7500 because of the T66 being a penryn which is better even though the cache is less.

valid points, but i think given the lower model number and the lower cache, the OP can use that as an argument to get something better....

if i'm not messing something up:
basicaly, seems like Dell didnt have a Santa Rosa system to replace with, so they sent you a montevina with a low spec cpu. I would definitely call them up and demand at least a P7350 to go into that machine.

Possibly the machine in question can't take a 1066MHz FSB processor? That and the lack of a T7500 may have led Dell to give the OP a T6600?
