Generally, the lower alphanumeric values are better.
Often manufacturers never cite the differences though. -
Generally the lower the value, the earlier the revision and if anything later revisions of hardware tend to be an improvement in some way - for example, when it comes to processors, later revisions can have a lower TDP ( the later G0 revision of the Q6600 has a 95W TDP whereas the B3 revision that I own is 105W), or on motherboards later revisions can support a wider range of CPUs etc ( early revisions of the motherboard I have had serious compatibility issues with 45nm quad-cores CPUs, whereas later revisions did not), to cite but two such example.
That said, a lot of the time, revisions will probably be down to changes in components used due to changes in suppliers or some such reason. Quite often because the manufacturer has been able to source the same component elsewhere for a lower price, or an updated version of a component is available that is more efficient or something like that.
Unless you can find some information on the differences between revisions for the specific item you're looking at, it's not worth getting worked up about.
If there was any known different between them, be it reliability, performance or whatever, then someone somewhere would've put that information online.
