Difficult question

I am disabled and spend most of my time in my recliner, i have a gaming laptop but there are many times it simply gets too hot. Is there a way to use a laptop case with keyboard and screen with a gaming pc tower. I am talking an empty laptop case minus keyboard and screen, no mobo. Are there adapters for this idea that exist or am i just a cripple with a dream? I have no way to rig up a screen in a sensible way so using a laptop screen and keyboard in the case would work best. You could always get a mount that has slotted holes for better ventilation, and of course do the repaste and such to ensure optimal dissipation.

You could also get a tower and get a mount to hold the monitor up and another mount for the keyboard or something to that effect as well.

 

Use a laptop cooler under the laptop. Doesn't have to be on, but it will keep the heat off your body. It's what I did when I was layed up in the hospital for a week.

Looking at the pics of the unit, the underside has 2 intake vents located just under the rear vents, so an ideal cooler would have fans under each vent, and drive positive pressure up those vents. I've seen some nice DIY units that allow you to mount the fans where you wish.

Barring that, the idea of the cooler is to keep the underside elevated so the underside breathes easier, and keeps the underside off your lap, so you don't cook anything on your person.

 

Even a flat 1 inch thick slab of wood, cut to fit you comfortably(aka, a bit bigger than the laptop so it widens the contact area on your legs) and resting the laptop on top of it will do wonders, because the laptop wont be partially choked by clothes covering the intake zones, and wood is a great thermal insulator, plus its easy to contour the piece of wood to fit you/your posture.

 

Having read other replies, I have to agree that a simple laptop stand/cooler would probably do the trick.

If you only keep the laptop on your lap, then you are likely obstructing the air vents which prevents adequate air intake/expelling leading to the laptop overheating.

The laptop needs to be on a flat surface, so a laptop stand which fits in your lap and would keep it on a flat surface should be adequate.

A laptop cooler with active fans underneath the air vents would also work (at least keep them on while you game).

 

With that configuration its going to get hot no matter what and looking up your laptop on google it wouldnt be wise to have it on your lap while gaming for obvious reasons

Like everyone said buy a notebook cooler and keep the vents free from obstruction. If all else fails try turning off Turboboost to force the CPU to run at base clocks but you'll lose about half of your CPU performance but it'll run cooler.
