I have the m15x but somehow - something really annoys me - I haven't been able to test "digitalsound with the m15x and with 5.1 speakers.

How can i directly hook my m15x with one of these when the m15x doesn't even have optical output?

Sure I have HDMI, but is there anyway I could get sound to 5.1 speakers without having to go through the analog..or buy an amp? Just normal computer 5.1 speakers.

also on the subject line of speakers...which ones are better...the Logitech Z550 or Pioneer HTF-330?

anything else? is there a point buying another sound card when my sound card should supposedly be good enough...would be a waste, no?

poor kid, onboard sound on desktop pcs sucks the wang, on notebooks, it sucks donkey wang. It just plain sucks. Any aftermarket sound card is better that onboard unfortunately. I think you should get something like the asus xonar U1 and use the optical on that thing, but you will never get 5.1 from games (which produce individual channel sounds) unless you get a really expensive card which can encode 5,1 to digital or DTS. Or you can find something that has 5.1 analogue outputs, like a creative NX (i think, cant remember) Either way, onboard is terrible if you have speakers that are worth more than $150USD
