I just read an article on Cnet that said Nvidia and ATI will come out with their next generation desktop video cards (Directx 10 compatible) by the end of this year...if that's true, does that go for laptops as well? Sorry if this has already been addressed in the forums.

I would assume not. It will be a little while longer for the GO versions of DX10 cards. They will have to make ones that fit in the thermal constraints of notebooks. Since im assuming that the DX10 cards are going to be the most powerful yet, so they will create more heat.

Yea more heat and power usage. Not really good things in a laptop.

It's my understanding that DirectX 10 will make much more efficient use of its GPU cards. It should therefore be possible for Nvidia and ATI to make cards that have the same power requirements as current models, but also have substantially increased graphical capabilities. Of course, if they added DirectX 10 compatability and increased power usage, then the results would be greater still...
