Hi, I'm new here and I'm hoping somebody could help me out.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P30 Notebook and I noticed several months ago that they were several pieces of dirt inside of my LCD screen up in the corners and around the edges. I thought they were dead pixels at first but at closer inspection they seem to be behind the screen. They are very noticeable on a bright or a white background.

All of the service places that I called won't even touch the LCD screen. The dirt got in somehow there must be way to get it out.

    Can somebody please help me?

    Thank you in advance.

Can you provide us with some pictures of your LCD screen with the dirt?

That might be difficult, I don't think I have a camera good enough to show where the dirt is (they are admittedly tiny specks). But I'll see what I can do.

So I tried to take some pictures of my screen today and the camera I used just wasn't good enough to take pictures so close to the screen.

I guess I'll just have to live with it.

This morning I found a black spot (actually muddy grey) on my screen too. I can use "paint" to draw over this area and I can see the spot is on the white light layer, well behind the lcd pixels. I cannot imagine how it got there and nothing dislodges it..shaking, pressing on it etc.. help ...It covers 2x2= 4 pixels, but it varies with my viewing angle

Try flying in an airplane :p

My Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop had the same problem, a small piece of gray dirt was covering up about 5 pixels on the inside of my LCD. I was considering sending it back to Dell for repair. I flew on an airplane a couple days ago (with my laptop of course), and I just noticed it has disappeared :D.

I'm assuming the combined pressure change and vibrations allowed it to move.

Any idea how to simulate this?

You could try driving somewhere with a higher elevation then shake/tap it a bit, if you live near anywhere like that. I'm not sure how much pressure difference would be needed for it to move (or if it would even work.. it could just be a fluke that it worked for me). It would be hard to do anything else to simulate the pressure, since the force is from the inside of the screen. I'll keep on thinking if anything else might work.

Use a vacuum cleaner if you want to cause pressure changes. Do not shake the laptop as you risk damaging the internal components of your hard drive.

Yeah, shaking it might not be a good idea... I don't think gently tapping, moving the display back and forth (the hinges usually have a bit of give), or pressing with your finger (gently) on the display would hurt though.

One other idea would be to ship your laptop (not ground though, lol) somewhere. As long as it goes on an airplane, the pressure thing could work. If it doesn't work though, you'd waste quite a bit of money. And it could be a pain to get someone to ship it back to you.

Ironically, if this really is more than a really nice fluke for me, when people ship their laptops to a repair center, the problem could get fixed before it gets there.

A vacuum cleaner is a neat idea, but I'm not sure if it would work because it wouldn't affect the entire display. You could try putting it up to the affected area. I'd be careful though, if it has too much suction it could potentially break or damage the display.

I have exactly the same problem on my Toshiba A100. There is a small speck, maybe 3-5 pixels, with is on my screen. I am quite sure it is not faulty pixels because it is shaped irregularly, if the pixels were faulty then the shpe would be square, or at least have straight sides. I believe that the speck has moved since a few months after I got the laptop the speck was much further down. It is not causing any problems but to me, who cleans my laptop almost every day, it is really annoying. I am also worried that if I disassemble the laptop something will stop working.
