I've used a regular Laser mouse plugged into my computer the whole time and I don't use the mouse mad hardly at all. Now, I type a lot and I've been incredibly uproared because when I type, my left thumb hovers over the mouse touch pad and that sometimes creates a messed up cursor action which then messeed up my typing.
I tried looking through the control panel, but was unable to find it, but does anyone know where I go to disable my mouse touch pad?

I have the same problem as you. When I was running xp pro I was able to find it and turned it off, but now that I switched to vista I haven't been able to do it. I guess I need to keep looking. Also before you ask, sorry I don't remeber where I went to do it when I had xp.

Look in the Device Manager, uninstall/disable it there.
-
Where's the device manager?
-
open up start and right click on my computer then select properties and click the hardware tab then select device manager

I looked through the whole thing, but can't find the program which manages my mouse touch pad on the laptop. Please help me, I really would like to disable it.

You can double click on mice and other pointing devices and it should bring up your touchpad. Probably either Synaptic or Alps.

On my laptop there's a function+F key to disble it, alternatively in the mouse section of the control panel there is an option to turn it off under a touchpad tab.
That's just my laptop though. -
depends what sort of laptop you have. ibm's have a trackpoint driver or some sort where you can disable trackpoint/trackpad via control panel/mouse.

The laptop I have is a Dell Inspiron E1705. When I've looked through the Mouse section in the control panel, nothing there shows anything about my mouse touch pad.
When I first got my laptop, there was an icon for the mouse touch pad in the lower right corner next to the clock, however, I didn't want it there and chose to not have the icon be down there. Now when I need it, I can't find it!Help please.

What do you see under Control Panel > System > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices? List them please.
Its probably just named differently. To disable right click on the suspected device and click disable (if possible).
Or you could go to control panel > mouse and find it in the options.
You should be able to disable the touchpad from one of these methods. -
Assuming your touchpad (or mouse pad) is Synaptics, here are a couple of ways.
If you're using a USB bluetooth mouse, insert the USB dongle and:
1. Start, Control Panel, Mouse.
2. Click the tab that says "Device Settings".
3. Tick the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached".
This only disables the touchpad when you have your USB mouse attached, so it's not entirely disabled.
To completely disable the touchpad:
1. Steps 1-2 above.
2. On the "Device Settings" tab, simply click the "Disable" button to disable the touchpad.
This way, the touchpad is completely disabled until you re-enable it. Re-enabling the touchpad without a mouse is a hassle though. Lots of tab and arrow keys to press.
Hope this helps. -
See that's all that I can find in the Mouse settings. And I don't know what specifically my mouse touch pad is called. Thanks for all the help so far, hopefully I can get this fixed soon. -

You'll have to turn it back on, Go to >start>run>msconfig>start, and find the synaptics thing for your touch pad, should be something like synTPE or something like that and turn it back on> restart computer>then go to device manager and it will be listed again, so you'll be able to disable it.
I did the same thing, then i wonderd why i couldnt scroll anymore with the touch pad. Took me an hour to realize what i have done. -
