Hi
I know this is a really basic function, but I'm having trouble finding it in Windows XP. How do you disable the touchpad tapping feature which can be used instead of clicking the mouse button? I'm getting tired of having my cursor jump to a different part of the screen while I type a Word document because I accidentally touch the mousepad.
I am using a Dell XPS Gen 2 laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition. My touchpad software is Synaptics.
Thanks,
Rayt

It should be in the touchpad settings in the control panel. You can disable the touchpad while typing.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I don't see touchpad settings in the control panel. Going to the "mouse" icon in the control panel doesn't show anything about touchpad controls either. How would you disable it while typing?
Thanks,

If it's a Synaptics brand pad the "tapping" function might be found buried deeply in the Synaptics Device Tab s/w (well, on my machine, anyway):
Start/Control Panel/Mouse/(Synaptics)Device Settings --> select "Synaptics TouchPad Vx.x"/Settings (radio button)/Tapping /tick --> "Disable Tapping"
There may be a small red Synaptics logo icon denoting the correct "Device Settings" tab. Mine is bright red in color. The tricky part seems to be clicking the "Settings" button after selecting the Synaptics device in the Mouse Properties' "Device Settings" tab.
My machine is Toshiba, BTW. YMMV, of course.
