    hi , i've got a Synaptics Touchpad and i want to make it automatically disable itself when a mouse is connected. How do i do that?

    Setting should be available in your Synaptics driver.

    Some HPs have a button for disabling the touchpad as well.

    The only thing I know that will do that is the Alps touchpad driver. But I have never had any luck with the synaptics :)

    Yeah, the alps driver has that option, but I don't believe the synaptics driver does.

    You can manually disable a Synaptics touchpad by entering:
    Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, and then Mouse.

    In Mouse, click on the Synaptics tab and highlight the touchpad and click disable.
    Just remember to turn it on when you plan to use the notebook without a usb mouse.

    Not sure about HP, but my Dell e1405 has the ability to control that in the BIOS options. Might take a look there.

    so can i use that alps driver instead of synaptic one ? Or will this not work?

    Well, either it will be like installing ATI drivers on a Nvidia notebook or it could work. xD
    (Luckily a touchpad driver is easier to remove than a graphics driver.)
