Bought a new toshiba m65 series laptop back in march and have managed to destroy the screen. Only about 25% is usable the rest is blank. Can't afford the repair cost so went out and bought a LCD desktop monitor with the idea of using the laptop as a desktop. I can get my laptop desktop to appear on the external monitor and everything seems to work fine except for when I try to watch a movie clip on Windows media player or any other media player for that matter. It will play on the wrecked laptop screen but not on the external screen. Media player will appear and the progress bar will move but the viewer remains black.
What I would like to do is set it up so that the laptop screen doesn't even come on but I cant figure out how to do it. If that is not possible can anyone explain why the problem with watching movie clips? Thanks.

I believe you have to hit the LCD button again(The one you press to send signal to an external monitor) to view video, instead of pressing it once.

think it could be the window key + f4 if im right

Disable the laptop monitor and it will play fine on the external screen.
Basically a problem with VMR7 (which most things use) is that it can only play it on one screen at a time (I hear it's fixed in VMR9 but since I never use external monitors I can't verify this). -
don't screens usually come with a 1 year warranty?

Depends on how it broke, if it was dropped then it won't be covered, the phrasing (have managed to destroy the screen) suggests that the screen didn't just start malfunctioning.

How do I go about disabling the laptop screen? Everything I have tried doesn't get the job done. Another Question. Wht would happen if i just reoved the laptop lid altogether? Bad idea?

What video card you have ? which driver are you using???
Edit: If you have the integrated intel gfx card, don't extend the display to the external monitor; change the single display to monitor instead of laptop. -
OK got the display working just on the external screen, thanks. Still would like to know if I can completely remove the laptop lid without any negative consequences. One hinge is already broken.

You need to check the manual and see first though. But, the wireless antenna is connected to the monitor. So, you'll at least lose that one I guess or leave it hanging around the laptop or something.
Disaster!!!!
