I have a Toshiba Satellita A100 notebook with the following specs....

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz)
    2 GB DDR2 Memory (Upgraded from 1GB)
    256MB nVIDIA Geforce Go 7600
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32Bit)

I have a problem in adjusting my screen brightness....
The screen Brightness always remains full And I cant lower it...
Everything was working perfect until I updated the BIOS yesterday.
After the BIOS Update, I can't adjust the screen brightness (It always remains full)..I cant lower it to save battery....

Even my IEEE !394 Host controller got disabled...but windows automatically enabled it after sometime...

I assume the brightness problem occured due to the BIOS Update..But I'm not sure what is causing the problem....My display brightness controller disappeared from Windows Mobility center in Vista...So I'm unable to adjust the brightness....
Should I reinstall my Display drivers (nVIDIA)?

    Please help!!!!

Does it have a brightness control by software? may be you just need to reinstall it.

First of all Try hitting the Start button + X. You should see a brightness slider to adjust your screen brightness. If you see no such slider disable toshiba flash cards (if you have them) and restart your laptop. Now you'll be able to adjust your brightness with your FN buttons. I had a similar issue and Toshiba Flash cards would not let me change my brightness untill I got rid of them.

I tried every possible way told here.......
I tried reinstalling Toshiba Assist For Windows Vista....
I disabled the Toshiba Flash Cards....
    But Still it dosen't work....
The Display Brightness Control just disappeared from my Windows Mobility Center (Pressing Start Key + X brings up Mobility Center)....
Everything was working fine until I updated the BIOS....
I assume this is a problem caused by the BIOS update..( PHOENIX BIOS Ver 5.60)
Can I rollback the BIOs to the previous version?
Full Brightness is using up my battery quickly.....
Is the LCD brightness, Software controlled or Hardware controlled?
If it is software controlled....could anyone advice me on a good LCD controlling software?

I checked on Toshiba's Web Site, and the Bios update you installed did change something with your NVIDIA card. ("Added: NVIF interface for nVidia systems.")
So I would try downgrading to Bios version 5.50 and just skipping version 5.60. Maybe that fixes the problem.
Oh, and did you install the latest "nVidia Display Driver for Windows Vista" from their website? If you didn't, that may help.
    Wish you luck! :)

I already have the latest nVIDIA drivers....
How do I downgrade the BIOS? Sre there any risks in downgrading the BIOS?
I have upgraded to ver. 5.60....I would like to downgrade to the previos version?

Is it a risky process? Do you advice me to downgrade the BIOS or wait for the next Version?
Are you sure the brightness problem is due to the BIOS upgrade?
