I woke up this morning and cliked on my mouse to wake my computer from sleep like I always do, but only to find out my monitor is not working (laptop is in sig).

I put the computer to sleep last night like I always do, but somehow the display will not turn on.

I didn't do anything different to the computer, and I didn't move the monitor at all.

I always have an external monitor hooked up because I like having 2 of them, and that one does not turn on either.

I tried shutting the lid, which usually switches the main display to the other monitor, but that did not work either. I always tried a reboot a few times.

I can hear the laptop running, and I can hear when Windows 7 starts in the background, so I enter my password and it go to my desktop where I can hear that *ping* noise which I know means some kind of error.

Does anyone have any idea what to do?

I don't know if it's the GPU or not. I was not doing anything on the computer last night but browsing the web.

And the computer was in sleep mode all night, and is usually 30 or so degrees when waking up. But no, I did not.

I have to leave to take care of some business, so if you guys have any oother suggestions, please leave them.

I think it might be the GPU, but it has never had any signs of problems before, so I find it hard to believe.

But the fact that the external monitor wont turn on either makes me very nervous.

I don't have the money for a new laptop, let alone for replacement parts.

This is turning out to be a very, very bad day......

Reseat RAM and HDD first. Then replace with known good RAM. I guess you could try replacing a video card if you know how to rule out GPU. My guess is bad mobo/GPU. I've worked on alot of M9750s and those 2 are the first suspect.

Did the RAM and HDD but nothing. I called Alienware but since I was out of warranty, they wanted $60 dollars JUST to diagnoise the machine. I don't have any replacement RAM or a GPU.

I think at this point I have no choice but to wait until I have the money to get a replacement GPU unless there is anything else I can do.

I would bake it, but I don't have the knowledge let alone the tools/parts to do it.

I would grab another MXM video card and try that first. The Alienware back then was pre Dell and getting brand new parts is near impossible. It's only refurbished stuff these days. Alienware is going to take your 60 and run with your money, they know they cannot get parts.

You could try the GPU baking, the 8700M GT is basically an overclocked 8600M GT which houses the infamous G84M core.

the card in my signature will work, its a lot better than your current one, and its about 100$ :D

At least I am pretty sure. Alienware users will have to confirm the fx 2700m compatibility with the m9750. I know it is supported by the area 51.

Well I can't do anything as of right now, because I don't have any money.

When I get the funds I will probably bring up this topic in another thread.
