I own two Dell notebooks - an Inspiron 1520 and a Latitude D630. Both are based on the 965M chipset and both use the Sigmatel HD audio drivers. But while music sounds perfect on the Inspiron, the same (heavy) track at same volume on the same equipment (my Sony headphones) sounds distorted around the mid-low frequencies on the Latitude, totally ruining the experience. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

maybe you might have better luck in the dell forum, but then again, you might get it for double posting.. or maybe people are sleeping.. its the wee hours in the US i think.

if you're using the same drivers and the same headphones and the same software, and you're getting different results, it would probably be the hardware.

maybe this can be compensated for in EQ?

I agree with brainstew. And you could ask a mod to move the thread to the Dell forum. That way you wouldn't be double posting.

So, when I first got my Latitude I noticed the same problem with music quality. As odd as it sounds, when I uninstall the Sigmatel drivers (so that the default Vista drivers are used instead) my sound quality is noticeably, if not incredibly, better.

    Hope that helps.
