    Hi,

I need to replace the screen in a Dell Studio 1555 and I am not sure what type of replacement part I should get because, as my seller says, this series comes with both CCFL and LED parts.

Aside from dismantling it right now (which would be difficult) to find out the screen's part #, is there any way to tell?

Device Manager says the device ID for the screen is INL000A but nothing meaningful turns up in Google.

The display is made by Innolux and I believe it's LED

Thanks for the pointer Bchen. :)

The label under the laptop says Model Name PP39L, any idea if this helps confirm the screen type?

I'll ask the owner to read the service tag to me and I'll see if the parts list reveals anything.

You sure about that? If I currently have a LED screen and I get a CCFL wouldn't I also need to get an inverter module and perhaps another type of data cable? Unfortunately I don't stock up on these parts so I really need to plan carefully before ordering... would you say the LED type is a safe bet?

I can't guarantee it, but if you google it: "INL000A Innolux LED" returns a lot better results than "INL000A Innolux CCFL." And unless specifically stated, any display should come with the correct inverter attached; if you're afraid that it's not actually an LED screen, I would just pay the extra few dollars for the listing that has the screen with inverter included. If you're purchasing directly from Dell, the inverter will be included. But I'm fairly certain that it's LED.

If you can get the part number of the LCD, that would let you know for sure.

    HWiNFO32 Download

Download HWiNFO32 and it can detect the model of the LCD Panel you are using, down to the model. Check that out verify your model and then search it on the internet to see if you have a match on if it is CCFL or LED.

I'll check to see if either HWiNFO32 or the Service Tag helps identify the panel type. If not, I'll get the notebook and check the label on the back of the panel to make sure.

I do not order directly from Dell but from a UK-based vendor called Require IT who sells "compatible" parts on eBay and I don't think he ships the panel with an inverter.

    @Homo habilis

I checked out the service manual and it seems Dell is very concerned about the step of removing the bezel

"CAUTION: Removal of the bezel from the display bottom cover requires extreme care to avoid damage to the bezel and the display panel."

    Documentation

In your experience was it a particularly difficult/frustrating part? I've changed screens before but not on a Dell Studio.

I agree with yehuda1, because from my personal experience the Inspiron 1525 screen cracked when I tried removing the bezel (I slowly pried it off with screwdriver).

I second the part about the tape. I have the XPS M1530 and the tape is definitely the most annoying part. Keep your finger close to where the bezel is being unstuck from the LCD and don't bend the bezel out too much or it will snap. There should be two strips of tape, one along the top and the other on the bottom. The side clips are easy to wiggle loose once you get the tape taken care of so you shouldn't need any tools. I like to start from the bottom since those clips are easier to undo and you have pieces to grab onto.

Alright it's LED. I used the service tag to look up the original parts list at this webpage:

    Dell - System Information

This is the screen part: LCD,15.6HDF, LED,TLF,V2,INNOLUX

@Bchen06 turns out you were right about the make & type.

Thanks all for the tips regarding the bezel.

I'm pleased to report success! The original part number turned out to be an Innolux BT156GW01 LED panel. My bezel was relatively easy to remove because it did not use any tape but the top was stubborn and took some time to take off.

Cool, I'm glad everything went well with that. Enjoy your new screen!
