    Do all new laptops come with optical out jacks?

    Most of them do these days, since I think S-PDIF is the only cable that allows 5.1 surround sound and over. However, mine only came with an analog input.

    Ah, no 'most' laptops do not.

    Search newegg or tiger direct or any other major supplier for laptop and spdif. You will not find a lot of hits on that combo.

    i haven't seen many at all. And with HDMI and DisplayPort (both which support multi-channel audio) becoming so common, we probably never will.

    The latest Clevo/Sager models have S/PIDF out.

    Or any Apple laptops.... The other way to get digital audio on these laptops would be through the HDMI port. Or you can add a USB/expresscard soundcard.
