I'm looking at the dell batteries:
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Now i know the 9 cell lasts longer. But what i want to know is if having the 9 cell would make my laptop last longer in the long run? Keep in mind i wont really travel with the laptop, it will be a home laptop(meaning plugged in). So would a 9-cell be better over the 6-cell if im keeping my laptop hooked up?

Well no.. 9-cell just has more capacity for portable use. I suggest you get the 6 cell if you dont need the extended battery life

You wont even need a battery if its always plugged in. But its a good idea as the battery act as a UPS (Uninterrupted power supply) if AC power seizes

No benefit from the larger for the use you describe. Since the batts degrade based on a % if they loose 100% after 3 years the 9 loses more in any given time frame. Think of it as would 2 separate 6 cells last longer? No not if use was the same.

ive heard that 9 cell batterys last longer before they start to die, but if its pluged in all the time it wont even matter if the battery wont hold a charge for more then 5 minutes.

One thing that I missed when making my choice is the physical size of each battery. I decide on the 9 cell with my 1500 and didn’t know that it was going to stick out the back as far as it does. Not that big a deal or a deal breaker, however if I was going to use an older laptop bag not knowing about it and it didn’t fit then that would have sucked. As it is I’m ok with the size, just was surprised is all.
