Because this one does, and if the laptop is resting on a desk, it makes an insanely high pitched noise that drives me nuts...but its either not, or barely audible if its NOT on a desk. a bed is fine, if its on my lap or something i cant hear it.
but i didnt really buy this laptop knowing that i could only use it in certain places, which is why i am mad. so before i return it (again), is this a problem on other laptops as well?

Yes they have fans on the bottom but they shouldn't make different noises depending on the surface. Every laptop i have used is quiet or mostly quiet on a flat surface.
-
Is it a noise from the fan or a noise from your notebook vibrating on the hard surface? If it's vibration, sticking some softer felt feet on your laptop should silence it.
-
it just pisses me off knowing i should have to do something like this. its weirder still because its there almost always, but sometimes its not. but i definitely dont think its the C2D whine. also, depending on where i move my head (yes, i know lol) i cant hear it.
-
Maybe the noise resides in your head
-
In all fairness, vibration happens, and there's not much the manufacturers can do besides putting the little rubber feet on. It's like with fans, some people get pissed off by the noise of them spinning, some prefer greater cooling. It depends on the consumer. How loub a noise are we talking, just out of interest?
Theoretically you shouldn't have to do any aftermarket mods, but as far as it goes, putting softer feet on isn't as bad as, y'know, getting your sphincter ripped out or something. -
its super high pitched and hurts my head! its driving me nuts. it definitely hasnt been on any other ones i have ever heard.
-
Most all laptops do except the epic failure of powerbooks. I had a powerbook and it had absolutely no fan at the bottom. It was later recalled because the batteries were catching on fire... Go figure.
-
Putting your notebook directly on your bed is not good.
Anyway your fan shouldn't be making those noise, try bringing it back to your seller and have them check it. -
I have a friend with a new Macbook and it does not have a fan on the bottom; looks like it draws in air from the side or back; a much better arrangement, IMO.
-
The old thinkpad A30 I got my GF does the same thing, sucks it in from the back and blows it out the side.
-
that would be so nice...well, just put it back on my desk again and here is the noise driving me nuts
-
All the Thinkpads, to my knowledge, have fans that blow out on a corner, with vents on left and back of the laptop.
All the computers I've had all have fans that blow out from the side. -
Dude, you should calm down with all your threads about the noise on those notebooks!?
It's all about the same thing more or less. I'm just saying, you should get satisfied with an answer if you read all the answers you get
It's not like you've made on or three posts about this, but this many:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/search.php?searchid=3584279
It's about 10-20 threads you made about this? Why won't you be satisfied?
And why do you keep on making the same sort of threads the whole time?
Do most laptops have fans on the bottom?
