They can detect microphones, mice, and keyboards just fine but every now and then they refuse to recognize my external hard drive and internal usb WLAN card.
I had a problem today where I started up, and the external hdd was not in My Computer. I checked device manager and it was listed as an unknown device. After clicking on properties it said that the drivers were not installed. This couldn't be because the drivers are automatically installed when you plug it in. After I tried cycling the power the device manager said that the device could not start (code 10). Sometimes I get a code 10 for my WLAN card. The only thing that fixes that is going into the bios and hitting "load setup default."
I have service pack 2, which was supposed to fix up usb recognition issues so i don't think that it's the OS.
P.S. is the asus ATK0100 driver for the USB?

You probably havent got the drivers for the USB WLAN stick. As for the External HDD, what type is it? If its a 3.5" one, you may need an external power supply to start the platter spinning.
