Just wondering if anyone knows if the drives inside the WD My Passport Elite drives are the 5400 Scorpio drives (the 320gb one specifically). I was thinking of purchasing one and taking the drive out to setup in raid 0 w/ my laptop as long as it's the same drive as my current one! Of course I'm only buying the external one since it's on sale and is cheaper than buying a regular interal one!

Western Digital does not make a 320gb 4200rpm or 7200rpm drive, so it must be the 320gb 5400rpm drive.
And the 32ogb 5400rpm drives only come in SATA, so you do not have to worry about the drive being ata.

    Good luck with the purchase.
Remeber taking the drive out of the external inclosure voids warranty, and the external drives only come with a one year warranty.

I know it's a 5400 drive. What I'm asking is, does WD make 2 different 5400 drives, like 2 different models for the internal and external drives. I don't want to buy the external if it isn't the same scorpio drive I currently have! Does that make sense?

Yes that makes sense, but both scorpios are going to be the same. There is only one version of the 320gb 5400rpm drive from Western Digital, so you will be fine.

Yes, The passport uses the SATA scorpio 320gb 5400rpm drive w/ 8mb cache.

Its a fast drive due to its high dense platters. I purchased a WD passport 320gb just to pull the drive out for my laptop.

By the way, Best Buy has these on clearance for $88, :)
