I have UndeleteOnClick and Active@ UNDELETE Professional but didn't install them. Would they even work with an SSD seeing as to how SSDs store / delete data differently than an HDD?

Anyone had experience with such utilities?

I have tried something similar with an internal msata drive. Deleted an mp3 and tried recovering it with recuva. If I was quick and launched the recovery not long after the file was deleted, it would recover it perfectly. As time did pass and I let the system working normally, I noticed that my file was partially recoverable. Conclusion: once a file is deleted and that cell block isn't overwritten its ok. Otherwise chances are that TRIM and garbage collection make things difficult.

Most of these programs work at the file system (software) level rather than the raw hardware level where differences between platters and NAND might matter, so there should be no problems.

Exactly. Once the blocks where the deleted data resides have been wiped via either garbage collection or TRIM, they cannot be recovered. So a recovery program could work for a quick "oops!" moment, but unlike with a hard drive, the data will be totally gone if you try to access it, for example, a week later.

But TRIM can work pretty fast sometimes. I used TRIMchecker and it seemed to be activated within minutes. I hope you have your Recycle Bin enabled.

so basically, that means these programs are not really meant to be used with SSDs and it's just a matter of luck and the quick "oops" moment if one was lucky

    what a shame
