When its plugged into an AC adapter that is.

In - I know what it does but by the time the battery is completely and utterly unusable, ill/want need a new any way.
-
Out.
My current battery has lasted me over three years and is still in good health. -
In........

Out. ......

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Out to save battery and also to cool the HDD under it.
-
Out, i only use the battery when going portable...
-
always out.
I put the battery in just once in a while to calibrate it. This allowed me to sell it as new (almost) when my compaq evo died after 3 years of use. -
always in, hp has the best battery
-
out.
altho i dont put it in a fridge or anything. -
I use it with the battery in and this has gotten me ~3 years on the averatec with the PC dying and not the battery. Plus I upgrade my PCs every 2 years (only for my main rig) so by then the battery is still more then fine.
-
In. My circuit breaker has a mind of its own, so it's nice having the UPS.
-
Out, I am actually trying to make my battery last this time.
-
I keep mine in...even though I know it isn't good for it.

I was wondering this also because I will be getting a new machine that I want to last me at least 3 or 4 years... a Thinkpad T61
If out, which level is recommended to store the battery, 10%?? I heardd -
40% in a plastic bag in the fridge. Refer to the battery guide for more info.
-
-
I keep mine in but I make sure that I use it on battery power at least 2 to 3 times per week
-
I leave mine in.. I've had my laptop for 5 years, use it almost daily and I still get 3 hours out of the battery with wifi enabled and screen on the second brightest.
-
I leave mine in, just in case i unplug it by accident or something like that. It's nice to use it as some kind of UPS.
Also I've had mine for 2.5 years and I still get 4+ hoursBut that's probably because I rarely even use it on battery lol
-
In, because I get interrupted a lot and regularly have to move the lappy all over the house in order to get all my work done (wireless print server died). So far, no decrease in battery life.
-
I have had over 25 laptops in the past 12 years, and all of the batteries are still running today, and all of them stayed in the laptop 24/7.
I have a few batteries which are still running in toshiba pentium 1 systems, which are 12 year old, and still hold a full charge.
Most of my batteries have averaged over 6 years of run time, and usually by that time people would just get a new one, but I keep mine.
In makes sense, and I think the battery guide is very flawed when you look at it on an electronic level. Keeping it charged at 40% in a freezer, come on, who came up with that. My brother is an electrical engineer, and he says keeping batteries at 40% makes no increase in cell lifetime. It actually causes the cell life to deteriorate, if they are not fully charged.

Do you guys use your notebooks with the battery in or out?
