Personally I do not like glossy screens, because they tend to have worse quality picture, much more glare from other light sources and less perceived contrast due to glare. And the touch function in laptops i found useless, not mention it adds weight, price and collects fingerprints.
Instead Matte screen is available only in few models and even those dying out because of touch-glossy screens. I do not like this new trend and curious for your opinion. Please vote!

I like matte screens more as well but I do find the touch feature to be convenient and it hasn't even been developed much yet in terms of the user base so unfortunately atm, for me it's touch/glossy.
-
I think I prefer glossy more because I rarely use my laptop outside or have any problem with reflection. and I do play games and watch videos, and it does looks better
I don't really mind touchscreen, it's a nice addition regardless -
definitely matte for me.

I.am happy with the matte screen on my N56DP but it isn't always that straightforward. As long as the panel isn't TN it is already good, and what I have noticed is first of all the old non touch crappy glossy screens are the worst. Matte is better because more of it is IPS/PLS but the trend changed again with touchscreen panels. Now they are even more likely to be IPS even at lower resolutions, and the non-matte antireflective screens are very high quality with higher color accuracy although they come at a premium. It kind of depends on OEMs more than anything for example Samsung's PLS panels are my favorite but how many of their laptops actually have it. At the other end ASUS is doing a great job no matter what what type of coating they use. They switched from matte to glossy antireflective on their new N series but at least they put an even higher quality IPS panel with better viewing angles than the already great N56 line and all that without making the laptop thicker and heavier, in fact now its even thinner and even slightly lighter. Their Zenbook line is just blessed with great screens and even some cheaper laptops derived from the UX line chassis such as the Vivobook U38N still keep those awesome FHD multi-touch displays and that thing is only priced for $800 for the A8-4555m variant, Samsung just shouldn't even bother putting the Series 9 Lite with a horribly inferior screen and a tablet processor and a weak battery at the same price point.

For a traditional laptop, matte over touch, I have an Elitebook 2760p that has touch and I never use it when it is in laptop mode. It just isn't as efficient as the trackpoint and keyboard.

Glad that so many votes came in and most of you are prefer the Matte screen. Thanks for Link4 who made an expert answer and mentioned some laptops with excellent screen or an opposite, the Samsung Series 9 Lite which really horrible with the inferior screen. While I noticed the Series 9 lite has Matte versions in Europe, unfortunately in the USA only glossy touch available.
I wonder if the manufacturers really thinks the glossy touch is the future? Do they know we prefer the matte screen or they think we buy laptops with matte screen only because cheaper than a touch glossy? -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Who actually prefers glossy screens? First off they are fingerprint magnets, which is already bad for touch screens (looks terrible). Also good luck seeing anything on a glossy screen outdoors.

Also, gorilla glass may be resistant to scratches, but it can still be scratched if you're not careful. With a matte protector, you can always change the protective layer, I just wish those darn things were easier to install. -
Matte is definitely the way to go. Glossy screens show reflections and fingerprints. Even though the picture quality may be better with the glossy there is not much of a difference compared to the matte. The cons outweigh the pros in my opinion.

Matte for people who actually works on their laptops. I really really hate the glass on my M15x and wish it was matte to avoid all those damn reflections. Sometimes I even lose attention to my work because of staring at my crappy self being annoyed at reflections.... lol. MATTE!!

There are actually a lot more matte screen options than there were around 2009. It's still not common enough, but it's a lot less bad than it was then. Unfortunately, during that same time 16:10 has been disappearing in favor of 16:9. But that's a slightly different issue.
Are there any matte tablets from the likes of Lenovo? I know IBM used to make matte tablets back around 2005, so it doesn't seem that far fetched that Lenovo would do the same today. -
Average Joe results are quite different from here unfortunately: Poll: touch or non-touch - Vaio Pro
Sent from my brand new true matte 13" 1080p BOE panel -
If it's a high quality Matte that is very clear and not grainy and smudgy look then I choose matte.
If it severely diffuses the color and it is grainy then i'll take the glossy even if it is reflective. -

Next time, remember to keep the questions general, and don't add any comment before hand.
Your own wording can leave people to believe one is better than the other, and you want them to answer honestly and not be influenced by opinion within the poll. Staying neutral, is crucial. Once the poll is closed, you can comment on what you prefer and why,. -
Matte all the way.
If I had a choice of having a glossy touch screen or matte, I will always choose matte. -
I wonder how many matte user are heavily into media? I suspect few, since glossy delivers more punch to the display.
-
I prefer glossy and no touch screen. But if the only option is between a glossy touch screen and a matte screen, I would choose the matte screen, haha.
-
It's fairly obvious that this would be biased because only "higher end" users would actually do work outside and would notice a difference between matte and glossy most of the time; it's a bit nonsensical to ask this here.
For the record, I prefer glossy screens.
Do you prefer Glossy touchscreen over Matte screen?
