Do you think this might happen

Now that they have hybrid graphics do you think they will do the same with cpus and the atom and such?

Once Intel (or AMD) releases their CPU+GPU combo we won't need the same hybrid graphics as we have now.

How do you define hybrid graphics? An integrated card and a discrete card? In any notebook system there is only one socket so it will either be discrete or soldered (integrated). There won't be two processors in one notebook. If you mean core wise, Intel can dynamically shut off one core and boost the other core. This might only be in the i7s though, I forget exactly which processor has it.

I am thinking for notebooks with quad cores that drink power, so being able so switch to another cpu to save power (I dont think the quads are very stable when down clocked a lot).

It's probably useful to stop using marketing buzz words and look at the technology underneath.

i've seen some system having an ordinary notebook cpu + a tiny wince system in one, so you could stay online and get emails while the whole notebook itself was turned off :)

i'd like the idea of having the lowest of the low atoms in my notebook, and a core2quad when i need more (enable/disable with a switch).

i think win2008 server supports hot plug of cpu's, so vista could, too. so the basics for such a system would be a given.

Why not get a really fast quad core that supports core shutdown and underclocking? Those already exist.

Simple works every time. Complex tends to break when most needed.

even if you shut down a core it is still 35watts plus (from the ones I have seen) for a quad and you can only downclock so much
