Does the Hp pavilion Dv5t support X9100? I'm planning to get it as there is a great deal on the marketplace in the forum... Don't want to take the risk if it doesn't work...

Bump i really need the info....

I'd say so, but the heat output may be too much for the cooling system of the DV5t, plus, the 45 Watt TDP on it may not work.

From what I recall, the dv5t has problems dealing with heat as it is. Throwing in an X9100 would be impractical; the machine would have trouble staying cool while putting the CPU through its paces.

To be honest mate, it is not really needed, for example I OC my P9500 to 3.03 GHZ and it gives me the same performance as a stock x9100. You will ONLY notice the difference in heavy games like crysis, gta 4, video encoding, virtual machines and other kinds of heavy programs. Plus a 45w TDP is not that helpful, but if you really want to upgrade look at the t9900, t9800, t9600 and P9700 those are very very good cpus with lower TDPs, or Is only the craze of the core 2 extreme processor?

I have to admit that I was tempted to get one too an OC it to 3.7ghz, but then I realized I could get similar performance processors with lower TDPs.
bragging rights ftw!!!! -
i think i won't go for it ... maybe i'll get a core i7 desktop replacement instead.... save the cash for it...

The Extreme series processors were never offered by HP in the Pavilion dv5t. It has a significantly higher 45W TDP than the standard 35W Core 2 Duos, indicating it needs a larger heatsink. The dv5t's heatsink has trouble keeping a 2.8GHz T9600 under control.
Unless you are maxing out your CPU for significant periods of time everyday, a CPU upgrade isn't worth it. And most of the time if that is the case, you are better off getting a new computer.
