my notebook is going through an upgrade soon.

I've decided to buy the fastest processor my 855GME chipset will support, the Pentium M 740 (1.73ghz)

however, something worries me. my chipset system bus runs at 400mhz, while the front side bus (FSB) of the processor runs at 533...is that a problem? do they have to match to work?

The system bus (for memory, etc) can run at a different speed than the FSB (which is the link to the CPU). For example, Santa Rosa has 800MHz FSB but only supports 667MHz DDR2 RAM.

How can the Front Side Bus operate at a different speed than the system bus? They are one in the same!

That article^^ doesn't say anything about memory speed.
The System bus(memory speed) can be different then the front-side bus.

It is already running like that so you are not changing so what is the concern? Here is a link to your stats, Link. I would not expect much difference in performance.
