Referring to OCZDIY17B1-US Intel GM45 17" Notebook Barebone

According to that spec sheet the compatible processors start at 8100, but im wondering if any core 2 duo Socket P will work, such as a T6400 or lower. Thanks!

Yeah its the $$ thing. The 6400 is about $40, vs $200.
I do gaming, 3d modeling, design and video editing, but keep in mind im coming from an amd 3200+, so anything should blow it out of the water.
Also the t6400 and the t5800 are both 2GHz, I know the difference is 45nm vs 65nm, but I will that even make a difference on performance? I read this somewhere:
"As far as I can see from Intels page, T6400′s VCore range is wider (1000 mV 1250 mV) than T5800′s, so, even though it may be a tad cooler on idle, on usage it will heat up more than T5800 (its max temperature is 105C compared to T5800′s, which is only 90C). Even though they both have a TDP of 35W.
So apart from the fact that the T6400, being newer, will have a better resale value, and disregarding the potentially misleading benchmark you mentioned, why would one pick T6400 in favor of T5800?"
Also, this person says his 5800 is faster than his brothers 6400:
"hi my brother has a HP pavilion dv4 laptop and its got the t5800 in it with 4 gig ram,and i have a HP Pavilion dv4 with a t6400 with 3 gig ram. Bouth run on same Windows Vista. His laptop is a bit faster in games, and mines sometimes starts to lagg a bit. But my laptop usess about 30% less power on the bettery, alot better. while bouth run on high performance bettery plan." -
The T6400 may work and for that price its worht a try and you can always sell it on. If it doesnt work the T8100 isnt too bad and should cost a rediculous amount. The T9330 is also a good choice and gives a good price vs performance ratio

If cost is an issue, why bother going with a DIY notebook anyway? By the time you get the CPU, hard drive, and RAM, you spend just as much as a pre-built notebook anyway.

This thing is $330. add a t6400 for $50 (new), 2gb ddr3 for $50 (new), and since i have a 160gb 2.5" sata = $430.
if i didn't have i drive i could get a refurb 2.5" on newegg for under $30 = $460
Ive been price shopping for a over a month now so I know almost everthing thats on the market and i can gaurantee a similar spec pre-built will start around $700. Thats $460 vs AT LEAST $700! -
u can get way better than this spec at $500 in Asus G51VX.. in fact a 100 times better...

Not super fast, but it can play MW2 on the highest settings. I've had one. It also get 3.5 hours of battery life with the 9 cell. -
thanks i saw that but i really prefer new. i do see a new one for $650 elsewhere, im realy going to consider it so thanks.
but i am still tempted by my $400 barebone, considering from what ive researched the 130m can run crysis on medium very well, true? -
