How do these compare to each other in terms of day to day usage? The TK has 2x256KB cache and the TL has 2x512KB and is 100MHz faster. I mainly listen to music, casual game when I can and use firefox and have a ton of tabs open. I plan on using XP pro as my main operating system and hope to have 2 Gigs of memory in each system if possible

In your case, I think the only difference between those two processors is the power consumption. SOmeone correct me if I am wrong, but the Tk processors use much less power than the Tl processors.

If you are looking for a processor for day to day use, the turion x2 is fine, but if you are looking for better battery life, I suggest looking into a core 2 duo laptop. The intel chips nowadays are very power efficient and you can undervolt them quite a bit, so they run cool as well.

Cache in intel processors matters, it is not really the case with AMD.

Sorry to bust on you, but for undervolters, AMD chips are better. Intel locks theirs at about .95V while AMD's standard lowest multiplier voltage is .8V, I was able to take mine down to almost .7 (tl-50), a significant savings over the Intel. So, at the end of the day, Intel's C2D is more power efficient at the same voltages, but when voltages are different, ie. AMD is lower, AMD's are the way to go.

TL and TK processors both have about the same power consumption:

I'm actually going to go with a Vostro 1500. It's a better deal overall for what I need, and it has a duel core duo.
