    Hello,

Netbooks are getting a lot of attention these days because of their form factor and low price point. However, the have a few shortcomings, but the most important one is limited performance. The Atom processor and the IGP is fine for Web and Word, but struggles with anything else. Even doing two simple things at the same times brings the computer down to a halt.

It would be interesting to see Netbooks that have ULV or maybe LV processors, as well as a dedicated graphics cards like a nVidia 9300m or 210m. These components are quite powerful, but also have low power consumption for adequate battery life.

I'm not saying that all netbooks should be really powerful, but those who want to pay a bit extra for more performance on the go should have the option. What do you think of this ? Feel free to reply and vote in the poll.

    Thanks

I want as low power and longest battery life possible , I only use my netbook for net surfing 10", is too small for gaming in my opinion.

Not sure what you are asking for.

There are 12 inch full powered notebooks--the Thinkpad X200 comes to mind.

But if you expect these to have a $300 price, well . . .

i dont think a netbook will ever be more powerful because in order for it to even be considered a netbook thay have to follow specific guidelines of what components could be used this is one of the reason why most if not all netbooks dont have an optical disc drive. but really though if you want power just get a notebook.

Netbooks wouldn't be netbooks if they were powerful. And if you wanted power, you would just get a notebook.

Its almost like saying I want a bike that can go 50mph. Just get a motorcycle.

What do you mean by "pay a bit extra for more performance"? If a "bit" means $1500-$2000 extra, I believe Sony makes what you're looking for.

Ultraportables with full power CPUs and 10" screens have existed for years before the original EEE PC was invented. It's just that they cost a lot.

Netbooks serve a particular niche in the laptop market; extreme portability and minimal power consumption. There are full-power ultraportable notebooks starting at 12 and 13".

Just wait a couple of weeks. Acer has announced an 11.6" with Dual Core NEO and HD3200. It will be less than $600.

It's funny that sofar the majority of people actually voted: "No, I think all netbooks should have weak Atom processors and IGPs". Sounds like the person setting up the poll was biased :)

i think the trend we're seeing now is going to be netbooks sub-$300 and ULV's 500-700 with business grade ultraportables being expensive like they are now.

netbooks already have 9300m like the asus n10j

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220385&Tpk=n10j

it just costs $680, which is way more than anyone wants to spend on a netbook. the nvidia ion is supposed to be good for netbook graphics.
