I have an HP Probook 440 G5 which has become quite slow (as it runs a mechanical hard drive). I checked it has an M.2 slot in it. I wanted to know, if I can install optane memory on it without reinstalling the OS (win10 x64) or is OS reinstall required. It does have symantec end point encryption as well, will it interfere with optane operation?

Unless your moving the operating system too it, you do not need too. Typically speaking optane is used solely for caching purposes when pared with a traditional HDD, or caching in general as none of the optane drives I have seen go past 118gb, unless your buying a card for desktop usage. If you want too, you could move the operating system to it and put literally every program on the HDD, though it may depend on how large the optane drive is. I dont recommend this of course, because optane is far to expensive, and your better off with an nvme which you can also just cache on.
I dont see why symantec would make any difference aside from security concerns, which shouldnt effect either.
Does installing Intel Optane Memory Require reinstall of OS
