Well, does it? I'm wondering because I want to leave COD4 in my notebook so I can play it between lessons, but if it drains my battery then...I'll probably bring it in a seperate case or something.

No when you are not using it, it is not spinning. When you start or shut down it may spin up to see what it is but that should be insignificant.

Agree with above. If your really worried about it, then you can disable the cd drive on task manager.
You can even make a desktop shortcut for enabling/disabling the cd drive -
Guys, please don't mention 'hacks'...however legit they may be in this case. We don't know if the OP legally has a copy (no offense), and we don't know whom else might use that info for the wrong purpose.

COD4 needs the disc in the drive to play. It only activates when you play the game. No 'hacks' needed.

I don't know what you mean by "hacks", but i've always created images of the CDs/DVDs and saved them on my hard disk - much faster than spinning CD-ROM. (of course you'll need to mount the image to a virtual drive, e.g. Daemon Tools).

Hmmm...not too sure how OP made you guys think he didn't have an original copy of CoD but whatever, maybe I'm too noob to understand pirating. But yea, there isn't much of an issue with leaving a cd in a drive except I find that if I leave a CD in my drive (desktop) then everytime i open "my computer", the disk starts to spin up and my computer kinda lags for 1 second. Kinda annoying.
Does leaving a CD in my optical drive drain battery?
