Has anyone else had the "battery not recognized" problem on bootup with the Dell Inspiron 1501?

I just updated my BIOS as was suggested, and it made no difference. The next most popular suggestion seems to be to replace the battery. But a battery purchased from Dell is about $135. Has anyone ever solved this problem by replacing the battery? Was it necessary to buy one directly from Dell. My understanding is that Dell's powerpack for my laptop is very proprietary, and an equivalent battery replacement from a source other than Dell is not recommended. Does anyone know if this is true?

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I'm a regular ebayer, and I realize you can find about anything there, but aren't you taking a chance that if you do this, you'll get a battery that doesn't hold a charge for very long?

The first one on the list(the one from roy.scorup) say it lasts 2-3 hours. And they guaranty it'l last 45 min. Your a regular eBayer, so you know about PayPal disputes. You can always open one, if the batterys not right.
