I have a nx9420 and was looking to replace the 1gb of 533 ram with 2 sticks of 1gb namebrand 667 mem (or 1 stick of 2gb ram, but i think thats a little expensive currently). There are so many manufacturers out there, is one better than the other?

Thank you in advance for your responses

Cheaper ram sometimes have defects in them and my not work with some brands. For example Geil and Asus do not mix. I would go with the name brand such as kingston where they are more reliable and worth the extra few bucks. I would make sure that your notebook surports 2gb dimms before venturing that route, since I know my notebook maxs out at 1gb a Dimm. Same with speed, find what your notebook maxs out at.

    Yeah, the nx9420 does support 4gb of ram (2 x 2gb)...

I'm looking on pricegrabber and i see some memory brands that i'm not familiar with. Edge, Smart Modular, Transcend, Memory Upgades, and Viking. Are these junk ram or any of them decent?

Also, could someone order all these RAM manufacturers from best for notebooks to worse, including Corsair, Crucial, IBM, and Kingston. I see a lot of ram questions here, and most are looking for the best ram for their laptop. I assume the manufacturer for DDR will be just as good as DDR2, although i could be wrong.

    Thank you for any help

i recommend to choose Kingston, Corsair and Crucial Some of of them use Infineon memory chips, but they work fine as long as no any error. I have a Kingston and Corsair for 1024MB DDR2 533Mhz, so far so good.

So would you recommend in that order ? Is Kingston good? I always thought they were the cheaper of namebrands.

Just place your order as long as you feel comfortable. Kingston also is a famous brand, it is no any doubt about this for choosing it. Of course, you also have a right to choose another brand. Make sure after purchasing, the dealer give you a good service for RMA or taking care of the defective products. Almost the service is very important than the products from a local store or dealer......

Sorry, I meant order as in order of quality.. ie Kingston is better than Crucial is better than Corsair.. is that the case? What about latencies, does that come into affect on a notebook?
