The Asus M50 has a larger screen and a slightly better graphics card.

Both look like excellent laptops. Both feature solid midrange graphics chips (HD3650 and 9600M GS). The M50 series one has the better CPU though as its faster (and will use more battery power). The F8 however has a newer P series CPU which is more recent, but is clocked slower. I think it comes down to this:

    1. Which one do you like the design of better?
    2. Do you prefer ATI or Nvidia graphics? Or do you not care?
    3. Do you want a faster but older CPU or a newer slower CPU that uses less power?

If you are going to spend that much, you can get a high-end gaming notebook with 8800M GTS (which would kill both of those mid-range cards you listed)
    - Gateway P FX .... at your local Best Buy.

Maybe he wants something more mobile though? Those Gateways are 17" clunkers. These two he is looking at our 14.1" and 15.4" laptops which are much more portable.

The M50 has a better processor and a better video card (the 9600M, i've heard, is equivalent to an 8700m)

The 9600M GT is comparable to the 3650.

the GS weaker than the 3650.

The HD 3650 should play the new games comfortably at medium settings. :)

You could get a Sager NP2096 from Xoticpc.com or Powernotebooks.com with a 9600M GT for less money than that F8. But if you really want to buy from Newegg that F8 is a good laptop.

the f8's 3650 is a little weaker than the 9700
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3650.8839.0.html

but the processor is much newer-technology than the one from the bestbuy link

u can probably upgrade ur processor, but the graphics card is soldered in....

its ur opinion, im just stating the performance of various components

As far as CPUs go, usually the GPU or the HD is the bottleneck, so I wouldn't spend all of my money on the highest end CPU but rather on a 7200 RPM HD and the best GPU you can get. :)

    Hope this helps!

    What he said :p

    Small summary:

    Geforce\t- ATI - older gen
    9500m gs 8600m gt (perhaps with ddr2)
    9600m gs 8600m gt (perhaps with ddr3)
9600m gt hd3650 if it would exist: 8700m gs
    9650m gs 8700m gt

hope this isn't too wrong... (source: posts above and notebookcheck.net: i know not too reliable...)

I would go with the 9600Gt as it is much better than the 9600GS. however the ati 3650 has hybrid graphics support, so it will dynamically clock up and down to save power.
Either the ati 3650 or the 9600Gt are worth while, just get a decent cpu like at least a T7100 and you should be able to play most games.
