Yesterday I was re-installing my ram because i have 2gb and my laptop only recognized 1gb. And I realized that my graphics card was starting to get out of date. I decided for some reason or another to take my laptop completely apart to check it out to see how easy it would be to replace. I closed it back up without touching any of the inner-workings and tried to turn it one. I pushed the power button, the power led turned on but the fan took and extra second or 2 to start whirring upon start up, the screen remained blank and there were non of the usual mechanical sounds that it usually makes. I did have the battery out and the power unplugged. I don't know what could've happened please help...

Well for starters, what laptop is it?

Also, I'm a bit confused by your last sentence. You mention you don't have the battery in AND you're not plugged in... That kinda means there's no power going to the laptop no? Was that during the taking apart or during trying to boot??

Just because you remove the battery and unplug the laptop while servicing it doesn't mean you can't still damage the internals with static electricity. If the laptop no longer POSTs, you may have damaged the motherboard.

While replacing my processor I had an issue where I couldn't even POST. Lights went on for a second, ODD whirred... and it shut down. Since I had voided the warranty to do so, I had panicked.

Luckily, someone pointed out what POST means, and then suggested that I reseat my processor. I took the processor out, reseated (reapplied TIM, of course), and made sure the screw was turned all the way. Since the mobo will detect missing components, make sure you have everything replaced properly.

    Problem solved.

You should go back inside the laptop and re-seat the memory sticks and check other hardware/cables to make sure they are secured to the MoBo properly. You might even want to disconnect and reconnect the cables leading to the HDD and MoBo. Try booting again with the Batt. alone and the Power cord alone (w/ out Batt.).

If you still have no luck you should try removing the Batt. and Power cord; hold down the power button for approx. 40 secs; replace the Batt. and try booting again. No luck? Try the power cord. A final option would be to remove the CMOS batt. inside the laptop for approx. 30 mins; re-insert the Batt. and try booting again.

If all else fails, the MoBo or HDD might be dead. You might want to call up the Manufacturer to report the issue.

BTW do you hear any beeps when you press the power button?

The HDD wouldn't cause a system to not even post, so you can rule that out as an issue.
