I have a very annoying problem. I recently returned from visiting family in Thailand, bringing along the PS2 that was collecting dust over there. Unfortunately, I lack a TV in my room. I knew this would be a problem, but I didn't expect to be as lost as I am now. I have a TV tuner that was also collecting dust (Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB2) and I thought I might try to use that to play.

I installed fine, and ran into the expected lag of a second or two. I heard about some good deinterlacing software that could eliminate this lag by helping it bypass the MPEG-2 encoding it has to go though to render the image on my computer screen. I tried DScaler.

However, I ran into problems. For example, when I selected my device, I found it wasn't being detected via error message. After a quick search online, I found that my USB tuner was incompatible! (**** it)

I began to search for solutions and alternate methods.

I remembered a spare monitor that was in the basement, and brought it out to see if it would do the trick. Of course, it lacked speakers, and composite input. I looked for adapters, and found some converter boxes like the XGA Box, but it didn't solve the issue that the monitor didn't have speakers.

I looked at new cards entirely, and nothing seemed to work. I even started looking at television sets entirely. I even looked at tube TVs, even though I've been trying to avoid them as my room is incredibly cramped.

So here I am, stuck in place with nowhere to go. The possibly cheap solutions are nowhere to be found; the rest are expensive.

I'm not against spending money on a TV; I'm financially able to shell $300-400 on one. The thing is, my parents bought me that TV tuner as a gift some Christmasses ago, so they're against me actually having a TV in my room because I can already watch TV. They're also nagging me to get a job even though I can afford the TV; psychologically it doesn't seem right to be asking for a TV.

It really all boils down to this: What is the cheapest way for me to play on my PS2, in my room, sans lag?

    Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: Whoever moved this: thanks/sorry. :)

There is no way you can by-pass the time delay if you hook your ps2 to your tv tuner that's in your computer. The best solution would be to buy a VGA to Composite video cable. Something like this http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/component/vgatocomponent.htm (Second picture). If your monitor has DVI, then just buy a vga to dvi adapter. You would require a speaker for audio. If your monitor is LCD then there is a good chance the quality would not be good. Porting analog video to your LCD monitor is not a very good idea.

Are there speakers that use the composite audio? I'm sorry; I'm not very sound-savvy. Unfortunately, however, my monitor does not use a double-sided VGA cable; instead the feed comes directly from the monitor.
