I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 to replace my old Satellite L30. But it seems that something is going wrong. My new one normally get freezed up both screen and cursor after a while and the only thing I can do is to turn it off. It also occasionally got Blue Screen of Death for 2 seconds then automatically restart. I didn't do any heavy task just listen to music and browse web. Could anyone please tell me how to fix it.
By the way, here is my specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5870
1 Gb Ram
160 Gb HDD
OS Windows XP pro
Thanks for reading this.

Hello.
Some more information might be helpful. Try reproducing the problem, but before you do, you need to disable automatic rebooting.
To change the recovery settings to disable automatic rebooting:
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
- Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
- Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
Now try and make your computer receive a blue screen and document what happens. Once you see what the error is, post it back here. -
Thanks for your reply, I'll folow and see what will happen . However the times my laptop got freezed up are much more than the times It got Blue Screen Of Death. Also, It got Blue Screen Of Death for a few seconds then automatically restart. It is really frustrating when my old laptop got no problem like that at all.
-
Just try following the steps in my last post, you will be able to read the error on the blue screen instead of having it automatically reboot on you.
What are you doing when it freezes? -
Just got a Blue Screen Of Death without doing anything on the laptop.
It said: " A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to preven damage to your computer

If this is the first time...
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufaturer for any windows updates you might need.
if problem continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or soft ware. Disable BIOS memory option such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select safe Mode.

This is what it said. I didn't install any new hardware so the problem mostlikely is from software? I recently install Mozila Firefox and Itune but those work fine on my old laptop.
And It got freeze when I do some normal task like copy and transfer files(not to external HDD), open a new windows... I waited for 10 minutes or more and had no choice but to turn it off. -
You should try and write down the stop code which is under the "Technical Information" part of the bluescreen.
Your new laptop might have faulty RAM.
You should download Memtest86+ and test your RAM for errors. Click here for a direct link to an Memtest86+ ISO. You will need to burn this image with something like Nero or ImgBurn. Once you burn the image, you need to tell your laptop to boot from the cd-rom first. This can be done by entering the BIOS and changing your Boot Options.
I suggest downloading and burning Memtest86+ on your older laptop so that your new one doesn't crap out in the middle of anything.
If you need help doing anything I just said above, let me know and I'll try to lead you through it. -
thanks, I'll try it then.
-
Yeah, download, burn, boot up from the cd, and let Memtest run for a few hours, possibly a whole day, to see results. Sometimes, depending on where the error is, it could take 20 minutes or 20 hours to detect errors. So once you start running it, let it run for awhile.
-
Just before I use Memtest to check, uninstall some softwares as recommend and My laptop is running fine flawless. ...Arg Mostlikely the problem is from Panda Internet Security which I replaced for the Norton 360 came Pre-installed in laptop. Machine is really unpredictable!!
-
It could be a driver/software issue. I have had BSODs caused the my network driver and vuze on two computers with the same hardware running under vista.
I would still run memtest though. -
Yeah man, run memtest.
