widescreen still sucks. Its 2009 and the stupid people who decide that every laptop will be widescreen should be burn and die slowly! I hate them!

Sorry but widescreen for laptop is the most stupid thing that I ever see in my life. Webpages are more tall than EVER, NOT more wide, thats why the word "widescreen" is not correlative with this times. Conclusion, the who make these rules are an idiots or they think that internet is only to watch video.

I hate widescreen, who love it is because they don't know what internet is about!

Sorry, I had to release myself.

 I don't mind, widescreen is alright. It doesn't distort anything, your probably not fixing the res in the programs you have. Or you just have an extreme hate towards widescreen !

If you're set with that resolution, then you're lying in your first post, that pictures get's stretched. Or you're just to "proud" to admit that you had the wrong resolution when everyone started to tell you why your "phenomen" was happening.

Maybe it looks better on a non widescreen display.

I could understand if you hated 16:9 widescreen on a laptop, but 16:10 is enjoyable.

16:10 is actually not that bad, considering WUXGA is an awesome res.
    But 16:9 is pure pathetic.

Well... I just about hated widescreen too...until I got my little SZ - ever since I'm fine with Vista and 16:10 wide screen.

And it does have its uses.

A fellow member once made a very valid point here on NBR:
As long as we don't loose vertical resolution its no problem.

    Widescreens have their uses

For example there is more room on the side for advertising on WebPages

I like widescreen. As you said it's good for movies. They need to make it even wider because it still has black bars (cinema aspect, I think they call it).

I'm not too bothered about the internet, as you can zoom the pages. I get your point though. Hollywood isn't likely to change for anyone, perhaps programmers can find a way to solve this problem.

Not for me. Laptop is the only way for me to watch movies as I don't like to watch movies with a TV in my already cramped room.

Hope you wiped good after that. lol wide screen is not to optimize internet viewing, it is for multitasking. more than one window open. research on the internet and write a paper without haveing to toggle windows. you can open excel and word and work on them at the same time... you get it?

    Love 16:10 Hate 16:9

Laptops primary use should not be watching movies IMO. if so you're way overpaying for a 10-20" TV and dvd player...

That sounds pretty stupid, what does he want? Screens to be made tall like a piece of paper? That would be ridiculous.

haha he should go to his graphics control panel rotate the screen orientation 90degrees and set his laptop up like a book :) and it even works BETTER on a widscreen for him that way!

What about games? I much prefer rts's on a widescreen display, because huds on the side don't get in the way. Mind you, you have less room vertically, but that's fine for me. And in FPS's, the field of view is also greater.

    16:10 FTW!

    16:9 Blech

16:10 you can comfortably sit two pages side by side if you need to.

I love my 16:10 WUXGA screen, being able to view two documents side by side is great! :D Or having a browser open and MSN chat windows out on the side. No need to constantly switch around.

especially on high resolution panels, 4:3 looks ridiculous. lots of wasted space. at least on 16:10 you can put two windows side by side and its fine.

16:9 i dont mind as long as its a huge 18" display. the 15.6 ones are too narrow for me.

Ridiculously great. At least when drawing. It is a pain to have to scroll around and not see the whole picture and I get lots of wasted space when its widescreen. I can see why it's good to have documents side by side though, that's why I have two 4:3 screens. :) On a laptop widescreen is probably to be preferred.

well specialised tasks always will have requirements that differ. a laptop is a general usage device though. trade offs have to be made. for the majority of tasks, a 16:10 would be ideal.

I've got an external monitor on my desk beside my laptop - effectively giving me 3360x1050px resolution. And it's awesome. I can be running a game, using msn, and reading a webpage, all at the same time. The 1050 vertical px are more than enough for most webpages anyway.
