My primary drive is shown to have 2 partitions under my computer, a "C" that holds all my files and a "Q" which is my recovery partition. When I look under disk management it shows that I have 3 partitions, a "C", "Q" and another unnamed partition called "SYSTEM_DRV" that has no drive letter assigned to it. What is this partition? Why doesn't it show up under my computer and how come it has no drive letter?

Just leave it and don't touch. Suggest you to create D partition for data

The third partition that's hidden is one Windows 7 creates. It should be no larger than 200MB.

Sound like a OEM made drive partition(bios or some kind of recovery), OEM tend to put boot partition together with OS.

You use Windows 7? At the installation, it automatically create a partition of about 100MB, for boot and recovery data.

I thought it was for proper alignment of advanced format and solid state drives.

Im pretty sure that 100 Mb partition is for True crypt or Bitlocker if you want to lock your system.

It's a recovery partition that has basic Windows diagnostic tools as well as a recovery environment. I wouldn't worry abou .
