While cutting the &%^%#$ package, I dropped a sodimm stick onto ground (from standing height). I'm running memtest 86 now (and will run it for a day).

Can I expect there to be long term damage to the stick ?

You will not damage the memory card if it fell on a carpeted floor. If it fell on a concrete or hard laminate floor you could damage it. But I doubt it will error unless their is a loose memory chip.

Its flash memory so it can take some abuse xD

But if I were you I would exchange it and say it was defective. After all you were just opening the packaging so it must be brand new.

Unfortunately it fell on a laminated floor

I'm actually gonna do a 48 hr memtest as system has 5GB ram.

I bought it online, so there will be return shipping + hassle involved. Plus, I screwed up so I dont want the merchant to take a hit.

don't worry unless it physically broken. laminate won't hurt memory... I dropped my thinkpad on hardwood... no damage to ANY of the components(except the floor). run mem test. and enjoy!

If you find an issue, returning utilizing its warranty through the manufacturer may be the best bet. Most RAM comes with a lifetime warranty anyways. I had an issue with Kingston about a year ago, and it was taken care of very quickly. I elected to give them a CC to get a replacement quicker, but I believe the shipping was free (cannot completely remember). Just an fyi :)

    It's not a moving part - It's not a hard drive.

    It's fine.

Ran memtest again for 48hrs, no errors; so I'm assuming sodimm is OK :)
