But for the other picture they shorted the adjacent pins from second and third row, it should be all on the third row right?

Well, anyway I just did it for Celeron M 370 (910 chipset) and there was no change in clock. I wonder what happens if I drop in a Pentium M 750 which has a 533 FSB, will the clock drop?

As far as I can tell, the 910GML chipset only supports the 400MHz bus and not the 533MHz bus. A CPU with the 533MHz bus will probably downclock.

It doesn't really matter where it shorts as long as it goes to ground which the different holes in both pictures do. Also and just in case, make sure you are looking at the socket in the correct direction.

I see, the interesting thing is that the service manual for this laptop (Acer TM 2420) actually listed Pentium 730 and 740 (533 FSB) in the processor specs besides Celeron M (400 FSB), so it looks like 533 may be supported.

I am deciding between Pentium M 760 (533) which costs slightly more than Pentium M 735 (400), but for 300 more Mhz, if it is supported.

How many chipsets does the service manual list? Just the 910GML chipset?

I wouldn't go for a CPU with a 533MHz FSB if you can't get the pin mod to work.

Yes, it only listed 910GML, only weird.

I did a search online and found that some years ago Dell Insprion 1300 has 910 and Pentium M 740, and it was listed as 533FSB, later Dell correctly the error by changing the FSB of 740 to 400Mhz, so I wondered if 740 operated at the correct frequency or not.

By the way, what is the reason for wanting to upgrade your CPU? An increase from 1.5GHz to 2GHz won't be noticeable for many applications.

Right now I can't watch any HD video on youtube, 720 video gets like 3-5 fps. So a faster processor might work.

Ah, yeah.. that's pretty much full load, though I would have expected your current CPU to do a bit better than 3-5fps for 720p video in YouTube. Maybe there are some settings you can change?

Is your computer's power profile already set to Balanced or Portable/Laptop? (edit, oops forgot for a second that Celerons can't downclock)

Maybe you can try use a different browser like Chrome or Firefox and get a popup/ad blocker as well.

I know. But the good thing is that I don't need to play HD videos, 360/480 ones are just fine.

I got a chance to play a 720 Youtube video on a Pentium M 750 (1.87Ghz), the playback is a lot more smooth, now it looks like a video rather than a slideshow. LOL!
Since this laptop has a faster GPU than my other one, I downclocked it and noticed the same choppy performance on my Celeron M, so I conclude video playback is CPU limited, not GPU limited.
However the only thing I am still uncertain is if the 533 FBS also helped in this case.
