Is there any such thing as a double sided, double layer recordable blank DVD? Where can I buy one?

there is no "double sided" there is however a double layer... which gives you 4.7gb per layer so 8.4gb total, there is no double sided double layer assuming i comprehend what you are trying to say intending on a 16.8gb disc? -no such thing... but 8.4gb is good enough for airman's 6gb hendrix dvd... someones gonna have a blast...

Double sided DVDs, double layered DVDs do exist (you flip the DVD over to read the other half) but they are rare like DVD-RAM disks and difficult to produce, causing them to be very expensive. Is there a particular reason why you need the double side?

I've seen pressed dual layer/2-sided discs, but I'm not aware of any writeable consumer version. As far as I know, they don't exist and your best bet is writing to two dual layer discs.
Where have you seen writeable double-sided/dual layer discs?

From a cost perspective four single layer discs is probably the way to go.

I've never seen them in person, but I've read about them on a few occasions. As you said, they're probably not meant for consumer use anyway. To the original poster, Google turns up some results about double sided, single layer DVDs if you use the search term "double sided dvd".

I have never seen nor heard of double sided + dual layer writeables DVD-18, pressed disk can be DVD-18 DS/DL.

IIRC the MAX due to design limits for recordable is one side dual layer and the other single from what I've seen. DVD-RAM-14 is an extreme rarity I've only seen them described and reviewed, never for sale in wide distribution, though $50 MSRP is what I remember from about 2000/2001. I have a bunch of RAM disks that are double sided, these are handy for utility disk but are f'in rare and F'in expensive, heck my last double sided cost me $20.
