Notebookcheck.net has a list of video cards sorted by performance and they are doing this by benchmarking the cards. But one thing is missing from their benchmarks. They don't specify the spec of the machine undergo benchmarking and they don't specify how do they set up the benchmarking tool. It would be unfair to compare benchmark score when one is setup at 1920x1200 while the other is 1200x800. It would be unfair to benchmark a card with 1.86 GHz CPU while the other has 2.8 Ghz.

How reliable is their data and how do I find out the detail of their benchmarks?

I think they have taken the 3DMark results from various reviews. If you point to the results on the list then you will see a pop-up remark with some more details (but not the resolution).

I would never consider the notebookcheck table to be completely accurate but it gives a good guide.

They give a range of scores as you might already know...e.g. min - 3000, max - 3500. So it just gives you a rough idea of how the card performs. In fact when you click on ''more details'' for some cards it gives you details of the tested notebooks, (CPU, resolution tested at, tested clock speed, Vram type). :)

    For example...
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-2600.3771.0.html

go down to 3dmark 06, and click on ''more details''.

Its possible they used an external monitor for all tests so 3dmark can be run at the same res for all notebooks.

Searching 3dmark scores in NBR will have more accurate results.

A lot of NBR members say this site is largely unaccurate... I could agree with them, but I like the GPU comparison because it's the only one on the Internet which is kept up to date... Even if it's unaccurate it gives a good rough idea.

    Yep.

Don't rely on it but take it as ball park figure.

It's reliable as a general estimate, they seem to keep the order correctly.
About 3dmarks, they`re always off by some points here and there.
