My internet seems to D/C when in hibrenation. Is there anyone i can download programs while i shut the lid of my notebook?
does downloading pause when the computer is asleep?
OH! and my computer says it has 320gbs. But half of it is in my D:/ I thought D drives were just for backup, or is it okay to save programs there as well? (what type of files should I save on my D?)

if half of your drive is the D partition then its not a recovery partition. you could also just check to see whats in there... but yeah you can put whatever you want there. have no idea about the hibernation thing, although i would assume hibernation doesnt allow any backgrounding

no, there is no way to download while the computer is sleeping, as you need to utilize most of the hardware (CPU, RAM, harddrives)... all of which shut off during standby to save battery.... Hybernate is even more impossible, because the computer is completly off in that state (Ram dump is saved onto the HDD so you can resume windows).
If you want downloading to "pause" you get get a download manager. if your using firefox, search for "down them all"... else, try "free download manager".
D:/ drive could be anything, you have to be more specific. though it sounds like your drive has been partitioned into two drives. If that was the case, yes, you can save programs to your second partitioned drive (or any drive for that matter).

can I partition it back into one drive? absolutely nothing is in there. Maybe Ill start using it when my C:/ gets low.
-
You can, but unfortunately not without wiping the entire drive first.
If you haven't reformateed in a long time, maybe its time to reformat and start anew? When reinstalling windows you'll be able to delete both partitions, and create one for windows, spanning the entire drive. -
OoOo, i don't have the windows software, but i have a disc recovery disc that came with my computer. Though i'm thinking that will install the two partitions again
or will it just install windows?
-
The recovery disk is another way of saying "windows install disk". It will work in almost the same way as a regular windows installer disk. (Just make sure that you delete both partitions when it shows you the partition manager, and then create a brand new one (do a quick format)).
Make sure you backup all your data before you do this! -
imo i wud hav my "my documents" folder in the D drive. thats wat i do and its really helpfull. if a virus gets in ur comp or sumthing bad happens all u'll need to do is reinstall windows onto the C drive and wen u open D, ur data will be ther.

I disagree, as he only has one harddrive, the "D" drive is just a partition of the main drive.
Should he run out of space on his "D" partition, he would not be able to extend it later on.
Also, its quite easy to recover data from a virus ridden harddrive with the least bit of computer know how. -

There are ways to delete a partition and add the subsequently released space into another existing partition without destroying the surviving partition. Acronis Disk Director, for example.
Also, you can change your power settings to not go into hibernation/sleep/standby when the lid is closed, so that the PC continues to run and a download can continue. There is some risk inherent in transporting a machine with a spinning hard drive, but it is possible. Some programs, defrags for instance, can be configured to wake a PC up from sleep. In any case, if a computer is off or asleep it is clearly not going to run anything.
As for the empty D: drive ... be sure there are no hidden or system files there.
Downloading programs while in sleep/hibrenateion?
