I'm not sure which thread this post would go under so bear with me.

For university Im going to "try" to get a very nice laptop to do the majority of my computing needs. However I am also interested in getting programs like limewire and other p2p programs for music and movie downloads and to be honest some porn too. I want to ensure that if i get a virus on my system that i will not loose all of my school files or corrupt the ones i save to my external hard drive. Should i get another smaller external hard drive for the downloads or is there any other solutions to prevent the downloads from corrupting my files.

Also I have a friend who is trying to sell his laptop that is about a year old for around $250 bucks. it doesnt have much on it but it has enough computing power for internet downloads. should i consider buying the laptop just for internet downloads

an external for backup would be great. Also, you can do what i did and partition the hard drive. All my downloads go on the c: drive so that if something goes horribly wrong i can just reformat and keep the important files on the d: drive and my external and discs for complete surety.

honestly though, as long as your careful with your downloads, get good anti virus software (even avg, which is free is great) and check regularly for spyware, adware, etc with spybot or ad aware, you should be fine. You can also use CCleaner to clear up all your junk temp and log files including your porn histories ahem
