Hello,
I have a ASUS Max III mobo, and use the Marvell 6GB SATA for my Corsair SSD. Word is to generally use the driver from the hardware mfg as it is sometimes reworked for integration or optimization specific to your hardware. Fair enough.
But as the product gets EOL'd certainly the development on these specific drivers by the hardware mfg will cease, maybe maybe not.
Also, the compnents/peripherals added to the mobo by the user (i.e., pc builder, us...) are not necessarily produced by the mobo mfg so obviously validation of the drivers is going to be somewhat limitied..Im guessing.
I guess my question is, noting that the latest driver from the mobo mfg is about 2 revisions older than the latest update from the S/W developer, do I stay with the H/W mfg's 'optimized' driver or do I go ahead and start using the SW developers version of the driver if I see it contains some functionality improvement or fix that makes me want to update?
I know its going to be specific to each situation, but here Im talking about Marvell SATA driver for my Corsair 3. Since the SSD being more popular and data transfer protcols are still developing, I imagine I would see fixes or optimizations quicker, if not only through the SW developers (Marvell) updates.
Has anyone experienced loss of functionality or witnessed any reasons why one shouldn't use the original developers driver, instead of 'the CD that came with the mobo"?
