Similar to FileHippo's Update Checker, is there any software (preferably, freeware) that scans the drivers of my system, lists the ones for which official updates are available and let me download and install in a easy manner?

I went to Dell's page that lists drivers for my new laptop but am not sure which of them are newer ones compared to what is already there in the laptop.

I wouldn't trust any driver scanner program. You need to check the driver dates in Dell's support page for newer versions. You can also get updated drivers directly from the hardware manufacturer.

I had a customer who used some such program. It replaced firewire card drivers with something totally wrong (can't remember what it was anymore) and also deleted Windows's own driver database. Also PNP was non-functional, nothing worked (usb-drives, usb keyboards, usb-mouse etc).

End result after few days work was full reinstall to make that system work again.

In the end... people shoud use more of those, I get paid well to fix issues afterwards :D
