I have the Asus G1 laptop.
I have Intel T7200 processor, Dual 2 Core.
I have Windows XP Pro installed (32bit).

    Q1)
When I install 64bit operating system, will my processor take more advantage, in other words be "faster" than it is now with 32bit?

    Q2)
And, Windows Vista is on the way I got free upgrade, will it be faster than my current Windows XP setup?

    Cheers

    1) No. No 64 bit apps yet.
    2) No, a bit slower actually.

About the second question, yes it will be somewhat slower than on xp but the G1 is plenty fast to easily run vista. You won't notice the difference.

Q1- yes it will be faster as it can perform more operations.

Q2- That's kind of a balancing act, Vista enables 64bit which is faster knowing your system is 64 bit. But Vista also takes more resources. especially if u use aero.

Q3- (the unasked question) What will the more speed get u?
Don't use 64-bit windows vista quite yet is my recommendation, 64 bit will be faster if u get everything working right, but the drivers for 64-bit vista still aren't completely there....yet and right now there isn't alot that take advantage of the 64-bit except for the operating system, If u game i suggest still using xp for the time being as vista's graphic card drivers for even 32 not just 64 bit still arent up to XP's standard of performance. (i noticed your laptop is a G1 asus gaming laptop, once a gamer always a gamer.

From what I've heard, 64-bit only makes a small difference over 32-bit; like a 10% increase in speed. For things like video editing, encoding, and unpacking RARs (etc.) it can make a huge differnce, on the other hand. Most applications don't take much advantage of it yet, though however, so the overall speed increase might go up as the support increases.

I'm really interested in upgrading my Express Upgrade of Vista to 64-bit myself because of the video encoding and iTunes support alone. If it aided Photoshop...Well then my three most used programs would all get a nice little boost of speed.

Using Vista 64 bit with Aero. Don't have Vista 32 bit to compare, so I can't tell. But I will say that compared to XP 32 bit, it's just as responsive if not faster when loading programs. However, I do notice increased disk usage as it Superfetches data to my 2GB of RAM. Don't know if this will wear out HDD's faster by some insignificant margin, but I like the performance.

Are there any estimations as to when vista 64 will be driver stable?
