When you see a CPU advertised as dual core, does each core run at the specified clock speed, or is that the total speed of both combined?

For example, a 2.0GHz dual core: Is that 2 Ghz for each core, or 1Ghz each for a total of 2Ghz?

A 2GHz dual core means there are 2 (hence the dual) cores running at 2GHz (hence the 2GHz) each.

Its 2GHz each core. The core speeds dont add up, so a 2GHz dual core wont make it a 4GHz processor.

HEY! miner your avatar comes from interfacelift isn't it? i have that wallpaper!

    back to the post...

yeah a 2.0Ghz CoreDuo CPU has (2x) Cores running at 2.0Ghz. it can dynamically downclocked itself to safe on power (intel speedstep), but thats another matter.
