I was thinking about getting a Centrino Duo, but i can't quite get around that it isn't a 64-bit processor. What options to i have to buy a laptop with a dual core 64-bit processor? As far as i know there are only the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor to choose from. Are there laptops cointaining that?

The only one laptop you"ll be able to fnd is the Clevo D900K and its various clones. But it cannot be considered as a true laptop as it weighs 12lbs and is a monster. If you want dual core now, the Core Duo is the only decent option. Intel will be releasing dual core 64bit dual core processors by the end of the year ad AMD will probably release dual core Turions in June.
I wouldnt worry to much about 64bit. It is still optional and it will take some time for it to become mainstream. -
As per thread Turion X2 is going to be release in May itself. I was expecting something like July time frame, but I guess they are ahead.

But release doesn't mean product availabilty. Just like with the Duo, it takes time between release and products becoming available, many manufacturers are yet to begin shipping their duo laptops!

How long do you want this computer to be used for?

For as long as possible i suppose. That is why i want most the the new stuff. But i think that i am alright with buying a new notebook every year or so.

You wouldn't have to buy a new one every year, I would go for the dual-core right now and then in a couple of years, go for the dual-core 64-bit, as it will be the mainstream by then, things take time to get phased in.

Yes, for 1 year you don´t need a 64 bit, but if you can wait, in june is suposed to be arelease from MSi, the 1042, with dual turion!

I like to thave the newest stuff if i have the money. And besides, it would be nice to get a new computer before the old one is rubbish. I might even get to sell the old one if it's only a year old. Since i have no computer at all right now, i can't really wait until the summer.
