If... and it's a massive if... the cards are compatible with the notebook (i.e. Will work as a single gpu) and fit in there, then they will work.

As pointed out above, while the 1080 cards use the MXM slot specification, they do not conform to the MXM 3.0b board size specification and nobody has yet retrofitted a 1080 of any kind into any laptop. And they are a disgustingly expensive standalone purchase.

However what you would be able to do would be limited. SLI will not work unless the gpus are identical. Mixed vendor SLI (e.g. One Clevo 1070 and one MSI 1070) in notebooks is untested.

In notebooks only the master GPU is wired to display outputs. Basically you would only be able to use that 2nd (slave) GPU in an independent CUDA workload (crypto mining, blender etc) or as a dedicated PhysX card in games.

I am looking at this PC. It has two GPU card slots, and it is 1080. 1 card for gaming (1080) 1 card (quadro series) for cad 3d.
So I was wondering if it possible.
Bennyg - answered quite well. maybe you could comment a bit more with information I provided.
    Thank you.

Typically we offer primary card Quadro and secondary GTX GeForce for PhysX. As long as both cards share the same set of drivers it works fine. Technically you can install any 2 cards inside and use them ie for Crypto mining.

Most CAD programs do fine with gaming cards, for most work, FWIW.

Depends on what program you're running and how much of the software's capabilities you're using, though, so take it w/ a grain of salt.

I only know of 4 laptops that are capable of GTX 1080 in SLI.

    Clevo P870DM3 or KM
    MSI GT83 VR Titan SLI
    Acer Predator X21
    Asus GX800

But of all these, only the MSI and Clevo are upgreadable. I dunno about the Acer since I haven't seen it fully opened yet. Asus can't be upgraded.

As for the form factor, there are several MXM card types. sicily428 pretty much showed you what they look like, and yes, not all work in the same laptops, compatibility issues (size, drivers-bios...).

Thanks for letting me know. Considering a laptop of such massive size and full of technology, I would be disapointed if their GPUs wouldn't be upgreadable at all. Had this laptop been fitted with a Desktop CPU as well, it would've been almost perfect.

The price still triggers me tho.
